Keep On Shining Card

4 May

My friend Vanessa got a new job as an adjunct professor at the local college and I made her a card to congratulate her on the new job.  I used my Simon Says Stamp kit from April to make the card.

Masculine CAS Card

30 Apr

I needed a masculine card for my boyfriend’s brother who passed the Indiana bar. I needed it to be clean and simple because I had several other cards to make, and he’s probably going to throw it away.

I liked the sentiment and ended up having to do it three times because it wasn’t stamping evenly. That’s why I didn’t bother changing the sentiment after I saw that it said “Atta girl.” Oh well, it is the thought that counts right?

Capture Your 365 + 1: Leap

29 Feb

Today’s prompt was leap.  Since I wasn’t about to leap and take a picture of myself in the process, I decided that my cat would be the perfect volunteer for the task.  (If you haven’t figured it out yet, I live alone and she is my ONLY volunteer.)  After all, there is nothing more graceful than a feline in motion. We also had some abnormally warm weather so I hoped the great outdoors would be the perfect backdrop for our little photo shoot.

I outfitted Valley with a stylish trench coat and planned on letting nature entice Valley into motion.  As you can probably guess, my plans went quickly down the shitter.

The only motion I saw was that of my arm pulling on the leash to get her to step foot on the grass.  When she did deign herself to move, it was to head back to the door and wait to be let in.

Human you know what I want.  Now.

Human I hate you with the passion of a thousand suns.

She finally loosened up a little, but not enough to actually move with any speed approximating a leap.

Human you will pay for this when I drop a stinky poo and I step in it and your white couch.

Como se dice “Payback’s a bitch”?

Maybe there is something to this “nature” thing…

Puppy Love

19 Feb

This is me after a full day of taking pictures of dogs at the local dog warden’s Puppy Love event.  I was so worn out from all the excitement of taking hundreds of pictures of so many cute dogs.

Here are some my favorites from yesterday:

There were 34 dogs up for adoption, and at the end of the day 20 dogs had been spoken for!

Pinterest Fail

14 Feb

So I’m a religious Pinterest-er, and I saw this picture the other day:

Pinterest Kitties

I thought it looked  like a pretty easy, cute thing to do for Valentine’s Day.  I thought that my normally easy-going cat would fully cooperate in order to appease her master.  How little I know about the inner workings of this creature because she was anything but easy-going.

So instead of an adorable kitty with a heart on its head, I got an angry kitty, with a heart kind of on its head.

She promptly let out one of her infamous, putrid-smelling farts.  She showed me who was boss–She might be six pounds, but she won’t be pushed around!

Peacock Themed Parties

13 Feb

My friend Gabby is getting married next summer and is having a peacock themed wedding and I have taken it upon myself to round-up some inspiration for her!  Here is a really cute peacock themed engagement party from Hostess With the Mostess:

HWTM: Pretty Peacock Themed Engagement Party

Next is a “Something Blue” Bridal Shower:

HWTM:  “Something Blue”

Over at DIY Bride, this couple made a lot of the details for their big day, and I thought the little favor boxes at each place setting are cute and look easy to make.  The decor could be easily customized to the party theme as well.

DIY Bride: Melissa + Paul

The boxes could easily be filled with candy such as Jordan almonds in your wedding colors, or some customized M & M’s with the couples names.

I love the idea of edible favors, and the following from Sweetopia knock out two things with one stone:

Sweetopia: Place Setting Cookies

These gorgeous cookies are place setting cookies!  They could probably do double duty and be used as favors as well.

One of my favorites from my quick search today, was this idea from Offbeat Bride:

Offbeat Bride:  Portugese “Happy Pill” Wedding Favors

Who couldn’t use some happy pills?!

Capture Your 365 + 1: With a Heart On It

12 Feb

It seems I have been on a black and white kick lately, but today I am doing a bit of color as well.  One of the prompts last week for the Capture Your 365+ 1 project was with a heart on it.  My cat Valley, short for Valentine, is named after the heart shaped spot on her side.  It is sometimes hard to spot if you don’t know where to look for it.

The heart is such a fitting mark for her because she is the most loving creature I’ve ever met.  She is sweet to the point of being saccharine sometimes.  The only time she is a pain in the butt is when she wakes me up before my alarm goes off.  Or when she drops one of her lethal kitty farts.  They smell like they emanated from a 300 lb. truck driver after a dinner at a truck stop buffet.  Baaaaad.

So in honor of Valentine’s Day I decided to jazz up her heart with a Sharpie.  Don’t worry they are non-toxic, I checked.

Don’t those eyes scream undying love?

Capture Your 365 + 1: Black and White

11 Feb

I was excited about this prompt because I really like black and white photos.  It is odd how the deletion of color can sometimes communicate a different story or deliver a unique perspective.  This is a picture of my favorite subject Bella Bear trying very hard not to fall asleep.  When I converted this picture into black and white it made me think that Bella was  very woeful and forlorn.

Capture Your 365 + 1: Tattered and Torn

9 Feb

I drove past a local high school that is getting torn down and I thought about this prompt from January.

Being a part of the Rust Belt, Toledo has plenty of tattered and torn areas.  This high school has so many cool architectural features that it seems like such a shame that it is being demolished.
